After completed our Route 66 Adventure from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica Pier, California, we continued “kicking” on Lincoln Highway. This blog is still about T-bird on Route 66 but we hope you will enjoy photos of the Mustang on Lincoln Highway and our annual road trips (Westward Adventures).

BOOTS MOTEL - CARTHAGE, MISSOURI

Looks like you picked the wrong time to visit the Boots Motel. It was purchased in 2003 by a speculator who hoped to 'flip' the property to Walgreen's for demolition; the drugstore found that it would be far less costly and troublesome to build on vacant land a little further south, so he ran the Boots for years as a flophouse before losing the place to a Hometown Bank foreclosure in 2011.

It has now been sold to two sisters who are returning it to its historic grandeur; the first five rooms re-opened to Route 66 in May 2012, fully restored to the 1940's "radio in every room" era. The roof is not original and will have to be put back to the streamline moderne / art deco flat roof before this has any chance of qualifying for National Register of Historic Places, but at least the place is open to Route 66 travellers for the first time in ages. There has been a fair amount of Joplin Globe coverage, a few TV news reports, a ton of Carthage Press dispatches and even a Wikipedia page.
